Verification of test equipment

Updated 2026-10-27

Data records

  • Verification of test equipment is a check, made between calibrations, that an instrument still reads correctly, typically by measuring a stable reference or a known value and confirming that the reading falls within tolerance. Unlike a calibration it produces no new documented relationship and no adjustment, only evidence that the instrument remains fit for use. • Because an instrument can drift in the time between two calibrations, a maker's introduction to calibration notes the practice of running intermediate checks, also called equipment verification, between full calibrations, a practice it associates with ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
