CT analyzer

Data records
- A CT analyzer demagnetizes the core of the current transformer automatically after each test, so that successive measurements are made under the same conditions.
- In a burden test the current transformer is isolated from its secondary circuit, the rated secondary current is injected into that circuit, and the voltage drop across the injection points gives the connected burden, which is compared with the rated burden of the transformer.
- A CT analyzer is an instrument transformer test set that, working from the secondary terminals of a current transformer, measures ratio, polarity, phase displacement, winding resistance, the excitation or saturation characteristic and the connected burden, and evaluates the results against the rated class of the transformer.
- Instead of injecting high current through the primary conductor or comparing against a reference transformer, the model-based method injects low signals from the secondary side, derives the equivalent circuit parameters of the current transformer, and uses them to predict its performance under different burden and fault conditions.
- A CT analyzer determines ratio and phase accuracy, winding resistance, the excitation characteristic with its knee point, composite error and accuracy limit parameters, burden impedance, transient class parameters and residual magnetism, and when nameplate data is missing it can estimate the type, class and operating burden of the transformer.
- The saturation test raises the voltage on the secondary winding and plots excitation current against voltage, from which the tester calculates the knee point by the definition of the standard selected; the curve confirms the accuracy rating, rules out shorted turns, and detects short circuits in the windings that developed after installation.
- Current transformer test sets also measure the insulation resistance and the direct-current resistance of the secondary windings and the secondary burden in the same session as the ratio, polarity, phase angle and excitation tests, and run the complete sequence automatically once the leads are connected to the output terminals.
- The instrument class is written CT analyzer. Value: CT analyzer.
- In the voltage comparison method of ratio testing, a voltage is applied to the secondary winding and compared with the voltage induced in the primary winding; with nameplate data entered, the tester reports the percentage deviation of each measured ratio from the nameplate ratio for every tap combination.
